Reasons for study:
• The Duero Valley can also produce fantastic white wines, as demonstrated by our own Blanco de Guarda Abadía Retuerta LeDomaine, which is perfect for cellaring. Other varieties are also proving to be highly effective when making a different white wine, as is the case of the Godello grape, known for being used in white wines in the north-west of Spain.
Initial conclusions:
• This wine has a surprising typicity, specific to our terroir. It has a different aromatic profile, unusual in the region, as it is fresher, with more mineral notes. It is also more intense, with a certain straightforwardness.
Key aspects:
• Great potential for ageing.
• A Godello wine, from the Duero region.
A spectacular and complex nose, with aromas of grapefruit and roast apple that mingle with notes of brioche and toasted bread. It also has a very mineral component, almost like gasoline. It is highly expressive on the palate, with a crystal-like acidity. This is a broad and persistent wine, with a long finish and great potential.
The 2021 vintage was initially marked by a lack of water in the ground. However, we managed to rectify with precision, plot by plot and row by row, during the green pruning process. The vineyard efficiently took advantage of the rare June rainfall. Furthermore, the average temperatures recorded in the summer were lower than previous years, and there were no extreme heatwaves. So, given these circumstances, the cycle was completed slowly, without any undue stress upon the vineyard. The first fortnight of September was hot, which was good for the grape ripening. The wines of this vintage are characterised by their good balance and aromatic complexity.
