A unique experience and a complimentary nod to tradition, craftsmanship, gastronomy and nature.
A terrace immersed in nature and on the banks of the Douro River, with views of the pine forest and vineyards. Its name, Calicata [Test Pit], comes from a technical term widely used among wine experts to refer to the land where the vines are planted. It consists of studying the earth using a drill or probe to find out which minerals it contains.
A design inspired by the terroir, where fine and authentic materials such as clay, wood or cork in terracotta, green or brown tones bring the project together.
An ideal destination for foodies and wine tourism lovers, far from the hustle and bustle of the city, where one can enjoy a first-class culinary experience that has the unmistakable mark of Chef Marc Segarra. A subtle culinary proposal based on tradition and innovation that revives the flavours of the land of Castilla y León. Based on produce from the local area and the estate’s own organic vegetable garden, which maintains the essence of the original created by the monks who lived in Abadía Retuerta more than eight centuries ago. And all accompanied either by its own wines or those produced in other regions, a chance to taste and discover their aromas and nuances in order to experience and understand how the climate, the variety of the grape and the land give them their individual character and personality.
Marc Segarra has been executive chef at Abadía Retuerta LeDomaine since February 2016. Alongside his team, he is in charge of all the gastronomy on offer at the hotel’s different restaurants.
He always pushes himself, and each season he strives for reinvention, to go one step further and truly give his best, and get the best out of his team. Today, Segarra’s cuisine is defined by creativity based on tradition, as well as close ties with the surroundings and quality seasonal products.
His greatest inspiration is the atmosphere and surroundings of Abadía Retuerta LeDomaine, and he references elements from nature, as well as the winery’s historic and artistic legacy, to imbue his recipes with his hallmark style.
