Reasons for study:

• Observe different types of Garnacha varieties. Most of them come from the low mountains of Navarre, the majority red, but there are also some Garnacha Blanca and Garnacha Gris (Roya) plants.

Initial conclusions:

• It is a variety known as resistant to climate change. It has adapted to the new climatic conditions of the Duero Valley, as long as its yields are controlled.

Key aspects:

• It is the result of a blend of white grapes and roya, which gives it a beautiful colour.
• It is a variety that grows well in the Mediterranean area.
• It is cultivated in the southeast of France and in the northeast of Spain, where it originates.
• It provides pH and acidity balances, as well as a great aromatic complexity.

Tasting Notes

An expressive wine of a seductive bouquet, with notes of ripe cherry, kirsch and a delicate spiced undertone of cinnamon. On the palate it is unusually concentrated for its variety, with a deeper colour than previous vintages, and an enveloping texture. It offers a smooth and harmonious finish, leaving a refined impression, faithful to the elegant character of our terroir.

Vintage

A long, complex grape harvest. The 2023 vintage was marked by high temperatures and drought. The hot weather in April led to early budding, before the drastic fall in temperatures in May curbed the growth of the vines. There was still cloud cover and rainfall until mid-June, so the team had to carefully monitor any possible outbreaks of disease in the plants. In the summer, the extreme heat came at the end of the cycle, but watering helped keep the situation under control. Then, practically at the start of the harvest, the rain came back again..
